"When humans should have become as perfect in voluntary obedience as the inanimate creation is in its lifeless obedience, then they will put on its glory, or rather that greater glory of which Nature is only the first sketch." --from The Weight of Glory
O LORD, I praise you that although the created world groans under the curse of sin, it still manifests your glory in beauty all around me. My heart is lifted up by the blue sky, the shock of autumn red, and the wind rushing through trees. Your world praises you with a quiet but faithful obedience, season after season. "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge."
But we all await a greater glory when you will return to make everything new. Until that day, O Lord, would you be pleased to work in me the same obedience and humility which I see in your creation. Help me to praise you, my Maker, with the work of my hands and the meditations of my heart. In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Amen.
